Dive Movie using S95
  • Hi Everyone,

I just picked myself up an S95 along with Canon WP-DC38 underwater housing (they're great value now with the S100 coming out soon!). I made the following movie entirely with my S95 during a recent scuba diving trip to Komodo in Indonesia.

I was particularly impressed with the colour quality underwater compared to previous cameras I've used. For those not familiar with the underwater world the deeper you go the more red light is absorbed so you can often end up with very blue/green shots. In order to counter this I carry a white slate with me and re-evaluate the white balance every time there's a major change in depth/light.

This was my first trip with the Camera. I can't wait to get back in the water this Christmas. I'm planning on investing in some underwater movie lighting first to improve the night shots.

    Enjoy!

    Hi Alain,

I find the underwater white balance setting for all cameras is useful to around 5m then the pictures start to come out green again. I carry a white slate with me and use it to manually set the white balance when I change depth. I used MAGIX to create the film. I've tried Pinnacle and Corel as well (I like the 30 day free trial's ;-) and found MAGIX to have the best end result - for my next trip I think I'll fork out the $$ and buy it.

Here's another video I put together of our Christmas dive trip - I added a Light and Motion Sola 1200 dive light to my set-up which worked really well. I did have some trouble with fogging in the WP-DC38 underwater housing though. This was mixxed with Corel (also quite good but not as nice MAGIX - especially for effects and sound mixing)
