Hi Guys! I have a couple of questions about movie making with this great little camera. What would it look like to shoot in the HD 720, burn it to BlueRay and then project it on a full sized movie screen? I'm talking art house- not Regal. Is 720 big enough? Would an 1080 be better? I guess I don't really understand the difference between 720 and 1080- I mean I understand that one has a higher resolution but I don't understand what the image difference would be on my home tv. Also, I read somewhere that it's best to shoot a movie with full optic zoom to take advantage of some depth of field. Even with the 3.8 zoom I think it would be a real pain to try and frame subjects zoomed! OK- one more question: I'm going to lock the exposure and focus while shooting and even underexpose a notch or two while shooting outdoors but I wonder, what settings would be best to get the most out of the post production process? In other words, what I think I'm looking for is the 'flattest' setting that captures the most dynamics.
I wrote a screen play in college about 10 years ago that will shoot out to an hour or so and I'm finally bringing it to life. The screenplay is actually terrible (not to mention some rewrites because of damn Crazyheart similarities, which came out years after I wrote my movie) but I still figure if I'm going to spend who knows how many hours shooting and editing (Sony Vegas) I might as well do it the best I can.
Any other tips or links would be much appreciated too!
As much as I love this small giant of a camera, it is not suited for your needs.
It is not possible to use the optical zoom during recording, out of the box. With tweeks yes (CHDK), but the the motor sound is high and will be heard in the movie. The S100 would be the better choice.
Frankly I do not understand why you would choose a camera over a camcorder in this situation.
Yeah- I suppose you guys are right. I saw some inexpensive Canon Vixias on Craigslist that probably would do the job. Even if the video quality isn't better just working with the nice bigger screen would probably be worth shelling out a couple hundred bucks.
