Best Case for S95?

My new S95 should arrive in a few days and I haven't yet ordered a case. Is the Canon DCC 1450 worth the money? What cases if any, do you guys use and what comments would you make about them? Cheers, Al.
  • I haven't tried it myself, but a bunch of people on Amazon seem to like the Caselogic TBC-302 for the S90 and S95. It looks to be of fairly high quality, and is pretty inexpensive.

I have a Canon Softcase ( http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002ORCFX2/ref=oss_product&tag=s95site-20 ). I really like it. What I would like to see, is a case where I would be able to take a shot in a matter of milliseconds ;-)
  • I stick my S95 in my back pocket when I want quick access.

That's what I love most about this camera. :)
  • I have the Caselogic case above. It's great - I like the carbiner and the storage pouch. Only complaint is that I prefer a case with a soft cloth interior that will clean off the LCD as you pull it in and out - I tend to smudge it up.
  • I bought this lovely little thing, my main criteria was that it wasn't black!

Mmm.. not sure about Caselogic but Sue's 'Pillowcase' looks great. I was really hoping that somebody might be using the Canon 1450 to make a comparison. I like the idea of its magnetic catch rather than a zip but I can't tell from ad pictures or description, if it has any additional space for a spare battery, which I think is essential.

I'm using the Canon PSC-900. It's the leather case with the magnetic closure. It seems fine but I do worry about the long-term possibility of the case marring the finish on the S95. The inside of the case is just leather, no padding or material to protect against wear.

    S95 + PSC-500

    S95 + PSC-900

These are the two that I like: the amply padded Canon PSC-500 and the form fitting Canon PSC-900. Just be aware that if you decide to add the useful and high quality, after-market Franiec grip, the camera really won't fit into the 900 case; but, it'll fit nicely in the 500 case. If you add the Canon PSN-100 (double lug) neckstrap, which I'm waiting to receive, the 900 would probably be the better option. I'll post a pic when the 100 neckstrap arrives.

The hard-shell case I'm using now had saved my camera twice! (appx. 1m from ground) I wanted to buy a nicer looking case, but now I'm thinking: I better keep it... :)

The problem with the fitted cases, lovely as they are, is nowhere to put your spare battery... I need a nice, good quality, snug-fitting, soft leather case, with a belt loop and somewhere to safely stow a spare battery. I haven't found one yet - hence this thread... Regards Al.

    My current setup:
    s95_case_n_strap

I was given a choice between this hard case, and the soft one on Irma_P's top image. As I said earlier, this setup saved the camera several times. I'm thinking of installing the lensmate filter kit soon. Any ideas what case would fit it? (preferably a hard-shell case as well)

@stst - You want to shoot within milliseconds?... It takes one second at least to take the camera up to your eye level. :) You can slide the camera straight into your pocket (without a case) that's my recommendation... (if you want to shoot even faster, you can cut a hole on your pocket for the lens, and maybe switch it on all the time. Hahaha)

@syf My girlfriend is very upset. She had the camera detached from my face surgically. And now she caught me with scissors cutting holes into pockets... ;-)

I use a Pelican micro case (model 1010) to bring my s95 when I'm outdoors and traveling. It has allready taken quite the beating on my skiïng trip a few weeks ago, but no problems whatsoever. The case is big enough to accomodate the camera with the baseplate for a gorillapod still attached. I just had to add some foam in the lid to keep the camera from moving up and down.

  • I really like the Apple iPod sock. It's cheap, tight fitting, versatile (works with phones, other small cameras, etc.), has fun colors, and pretty easy access. I'll post a pic later. Anyone else have experience with the Canon PSC-900 case?

I have a Case Logic case very small very soft and padded which allows me to still put in my coat pocket.

  • imageCanon PSC 3200 case from the US - which isn't available here. Ideal for me as it accommodates the Richard Franiec grip for the S95.
  • @Hitman I just couldn't resist your Peli case:

@Simon_Gardner Nice job on the foam inlay! Good quality product pictures too!
I havent regret mine so far, it has taken quite the beating so far but no harm to the camera.

@Simon_Gardner you really like original stuff...
  • Simon, thanks again for sharing these quality shots. Before I registered for the site I caught a comment of yours about Richard's grip and ordered it within minutes so thank you for sharing that info. In regards to the PSC 3200 case above, does it have a belt loop or otherwise? The Pelican case is an outstanding idea, their products are top notch and reliable. I appreciate your insight, thanks again.
  • Yes, there’s a belt loop on the PSC 3200 case. Never used it, though.

They all look great! By the way, I'm a newcomer and I don't know how to upload pics into the website. There doesn't seem to have an option for uploading attachments.

Hi, I use the Crumpler pp70 , perfect fit with an inside packet for extra battery/card.

Ps - I love the Richards grip on the S95 above (not seen it before) - currently searching the internet to get one!

There are some nice looking cases here! I'm beginning to feel that I'm neglecting my S95 by carrying it in my pocket. That said, now that I have the Lensmate adapter installed on the camera and a number of filters to use with it, I'll most probably be carrying them all in this Natural Flight small shoulder bag I have had for years. I'll post a photo some time. It's a great little bag.

@Glenn could you maybe help us out and make some comparison shots with the lensmate filters you have? It would be extremely helpfull to those considering getting it as an accesoiry.

just post them in the existing filter thread: http://s95site.com/forum/discussion/72/filters/#Item_3

I second Irma_P's suggestion on the Canon PSC-500. With the Franiec grip and Gorillapod clip on my S95 the camera fits perfectly. The case also holds its shape well so it's easy to "holster" your camera one-handed when you're done taking a shot. I've experienced some minor fraying; if you go over it quickly with a lighter it takes care of it nicely. Six bucks on Amazon (paid $14 at a camera shop, but I got to try a bunch on for size until I found the right one :-).

No room for an extra battery pack or card; it's up to you whether that's a priority.

  • I used to be a somewhat serious amateur photographer, but now I am just a vacation pocket camera photographer, so there is not much I can offer for photography advice.

However, I am an EXPERT on carrying pocket cameras on vacations! I moved from the Canon G3 to the SD 790 IS and now to the S95 - each one a great camera, but the 790 and S95 are SO much easier to carry.

The BEST vacation case for small pocket cameras is the Eagle Creek Market Pouch, about $20. Mine is black.

    http://www.eaglecreek.com/accessories/security_id/Market-Pouch-40510/

Go to the view that shows it opened up. Where they put the passport you should put your pocket camera. I put my passport in the back compartment and I put a Debit/ATM card in the zippered middle compartment. I put paper cash in the upper zippered net compartment. I put a few coins, lib balm, etc. in the zippered outside front compartment. There is a pen or pencil slot on the left side of the lower middle inside compartment. I don't carry one, but there is also room for a small notebook for travel info. or photo shot notes.

There is a belt loop on the back, which is how I wear mine. I cut off the shoulder strap. With the zippered compartments and the front flap clip it is very resistant to casual pickpockets.
  • Kata bags offers many options for a case for a compact camera like the S95. Some close with zippers and some with velcro. Some fit just the camera only whereas there are models with a little more space for other stuff like SD cards, spare batteries....etc. They are of very good quality, offers good protection and are quite reasonably priced. There is probably a model that will suit everyone's different needs and taste.

I am using a Digital Pouch DF-404-X which fits the S95 with the RF grip quite snugly. There are 2 belt loops on the back that allows you to hang it on your belt either in the horizontal or vertical position. The inside of the case is lined with a yellow soft felt cloth preventing scratches on the camera. The TST Rib in the front cover offers protection from hard knocks.

Check out the models at their website at www.kata-bags.com
  • The best bag for my s95 is th Lowepro Santiago 20. It fits perfectly, even with the MANFROTTO Tripod mounted on !!!

It's strong and small, with a zip.

  • I have a liking for Crumpler bags so I bought a Tuft case (medium I think). So far so good. It's quite a bit different to the Thirsty Al that I got my wife last year but it's slim and padded and has a carabiner clip on the back and two teeny tiny little pockets on the inside that would hold a memory card each.

    Pics:

It comes in a few different colours too if you don't like black.
  • I have the Case Logic DCB-302 in magenta:
    image image
I like it a lot more than the more popular TCB-302 (first case mentioned in this thread) because it has a removable shoulder strap and a larger pocket for batteries, memory cards, etc. (Amazon Link)

I tried several new cases but I'm back with my old Tamrac case (#5206). I don't like a zipper, because you will miss shots.
The belt loop has a fasten button so you don't have to take off your belt.
The s95 fits perfect and the little extra pocket fits a spare battery or sd card.

I have bought today a Hama "Fancy Classic 40H" - the zipper seam seems to be quite tight, good against much rain as well, I think.

I like the Built Neoprene Compact Camera Envelope. Amazon carries it, at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XVO08U
It's a trim fit, but not too tight, and is somewhat water resistant. There is a small zippered pocket for an extra battery and SD card. It's easy access, using a velcro closure. No belt clip, you either put it in your pocket or a purse, or you can carry it using the camera's own strap.
  • ...somewhat water resistant...

This seems like being "somewhat pregnant".

Well, lets say I wouldn't carry it in the pouring rain, or dunk it in the lake. But it would probably protect your camera against occasional splashes.

Another here with the Caselogic TBC-302. Can't beat it for the price and the little pocket comes in handy for carrying extra batteries, etc.
  • I bought a fantastic case when I got my S95. I'll post a picture up when I can! It's a slim, black, zippered Lowepro one.
